The CubeSat 6U TROLL satellite (20 × 10 × 34 centimetre) manufactured by TRL Space in Brno was launched by a Falcon 9 rocket in January this year.
The satellite forms the basis of the Czech-Ukrainian satellite network and is equipped with a sensitive hyperspectral camera with a resolution of less than 5 metres per pixel for imaging the Earth’s surface. Using advanced technology, it can capture light in dozens of spectral bands at once. The individual images contain detailed information about the reflected light at different wavelengths, allowing the chemical composition or humidity of the objectst, for example. Ukraine is preparing to send 5 smaller satellites called DRAK equipped with conventional cameras for military use (e.g. detection of hidden weapons, traces of chemical agents,…) gradually until 2031.
